Think of Opportunity
With all the losses that COVID-19 brought (and continues to bring) it’s hard to remember what it’s like to win. But you don’t need to win right now. This is a time to think. To really think. This is an opportunity to reflect on your life, where you’re at, what you’ve done, and what you haven’t done. Mentally explore options you can do right now and moves you can make. And then follow it up with action, even if it’s just baby steps. Every millimeter counts.
If you’re at a place where you don’t want to be, great, start your departure. It might be where you live or where you work. Or maybe the friends you have, your lifestyle, your habits. You have an opportunity to make your own major changes right now. Or at least draw a roadmap. Maybe several. The world has changed, a lot has been broken down, dismantled, hurt, but as things rebuild, renew, think about whether or not you want to wait for the infrastructure to be reconstructed or be part of actually reconstructing it.
Think of what you’ve done lately. Are you being productive? Are you focused on the struggle? Have you done things that are fun for you? And please don’t tell me that the only fun you have is when you’re with others. Blup that! Learn about yourself. Learn to enjoy and appreciate yourself. Be selfish a bit. Don’t rely on the life of others around you to make you feel whole. Yes, it’s beautiful to have people, be with loved ones, friends, et cetera, but it can also be beautiful to be with yourself and your thoughts. For some this may be hard. Even scary. But if not now then when?
Also think of what you haven’t done lately. Maybe you’ve been meaning to read more books, but “didn’t have the time”. Well, now’s a great time! Or maybe you’ve been interested in learning how to cook, but were always “too busy”. If lately you’ve been staying at home and not going out maybe it’s a good time to experiment with being a chef for yourself. Or just doing something different. Learning about how to be more self-sustained. Challenge yourself and enjoy the rewards.
